Fall is in the air - Cuttin' Up with Class Challenge #3

Hi, everyone!
It's been a busy past week: surgery for my husband on Friday, so we spent the weekend "quiet", and I have been dealing with fall allergies and icky RA issues this past week. I was happy to finish working on today's Cuttin' Up with Class Challenge! :0)

For this card, I used two of her Oak Leaf files. She also has some Maple Leaf files in the download, too.

My papers are by Imaginesce, from a collection called Apple Cider. The 3D Flower that I used is from my 3D Flowers Collection, which you can find in My Etsy Shop.

The card base is something I created, and is also an available SVG for sale in My Etsy Shop, along with some other great step cards for the season! :0) It includes the cad base, designer paper layers for the side of the steps, the letters and layers, the step "trim", the digi sentiment, sized to fit the card as shown, and it's base layer. The leaves, acorns and flower are not part of the card file on Etsy: the leaves are Jani's (available for a limited time on the Cuttin' Up With Class Challenge Blog), and the acorns are cut from the SCAL basic shapes library.

This photo shows the card "steps" more clearly. There are three layers to the letters: the card base, a layer of red, and the letters.

I did some inking on the edges of my sentiment layer, the leaves, the acorns (which are cut from the SCAL basic shapes library), and the 3D Flower. I also did some embossing, and then inked, the stair "trim". A little bit of bling, in the form of a rhinestone brad, finished off the card for me.

So, that's it from me for today, folks! I'm still beat from my weekend, and trying to catch up on some rest, as I am headed on a road trip this coming weekend - my baby sis is having her first baby, Mikayla Paije, on Thursday! Yippeee.....I will be an auntie! :0) Road trips are always tough for me and my achey bones, but I am really looking forward to this one! :0)

Here's a little Saturday freebie for you! :0) I have been playing around with this file for quite some time, and I finally am happy with it. I have seen many versions of curled 3D flowers, recently, and here's mine, inspired by the Spellbinders dies. (I love my Spellbinders, but sometimes it's nice to pull out the cutting machine and cut....especially for bulk quantities of things like this!)

The file includes an instruction diagram with simple instructions and glue suggestions on one sheet. It looks like this

If you cut the file as it is sized for the SVG in the download it will create the size finished flower shown above in my photo. If you shrink the SVG down a little, you could have a smaller flower...of course, you can make it larger, too!

To create the flower, start at the outside piece, marked in the photo, and roll the paper onto itself. When rolling it, try to keep the straight edge lined up as you go along.
You can use tweezers, a stylus, a pen.....or anything similar, to help you roll the paper, if you choose. You may also add glitter, ink the edges or curl the edges, ....either before or after rolling the paper, to add some variation. You could also run the svg cut through an embossing folder before rolling it (I like to use my Cuttlebug Swiss Dots folder on flowers...so pretty!) So many things you can do with this!

Once your paper is rolled, let the paper "log" loosen up a bit, so it has the appearance of the above photo, or similar, to your liking. Add a small drop of glue to the end of the roll, and adhere it to the back side of the petal it is up against. TIP: You may want to use a small drop of clear-drying glue in the center of the flower when you start the rolling, as well. This may help keep the flowers shape better. I did not do that for the pictured flower, but for a tighter layered flower, I definitely would have.
