Back to School - Wednesday Scrap Challenge

Today is the day for another Scrap Challenge over at Scrappily Ever After, and the theme this month is "Back To School". I had this adorable Dustin Pike Image, from Season of Dragons, so I printed him up to color him in. I love Dustin's Dragons, and this one brings back memories of lugging around a heavy backpack every day! You see, all of us were "little" at one point, but I was always the "littlest"!
Anyhow, this was a simple card to make - some oval cuts, coloring and embossing with a CB folder. Hope you like!

A Summer Dragon Flower for You! - Scrap Challenge Wednesday

Melanie, at Scrappily Ever After, hosts a Scrap Challenge every Wednesday. She's doing a great job of kicking my butt into gear for creating cards for Operation Write Home to send to the troops! This is my submission to the team of gals she put together to help inspire others to create with just their scrap pile papers! This card was put together with only scrap paper!

Scrap challenge cards can include scrap papers and any embellishes from previously opened packages (for ribbon, it should come from a roll you've already cut from). 

Today, I made a card using a Dustin Pike Image. It's from his Dragon For All Seasons Collection of digi-stamps. (We LOVE dragons at our house, don't you?!). I used an EK Success border punch and did some sponging on the edges. The image is colored with my Prisma Colored Pencils. If you take a peek at my Labels list (right column of the blog), you can see I have several posts with a Dragon label. Coloring

It has been a stressful few months: dealing with schedule changes, wage deductions and the not-so-secure job future for Chris. So I spent a couple hours at my friends house having coffee, commiserating about the economy, and laughing hysterically when her nine-year-old son decided he needed to trim his hair! (It wasn't so pretty....poor kid - it's going to be a long month for him, but....) hehehehe! 

Coming home to an empty house (with Chris on afternoons, it's become the norm) is a huge bummer. I printed up some Dustin Pike Images to color, and they turned into these two cards. I can't send the birthday cake dragon to OWH because I used Stickles, but the cupcake monkey is headed for the pile to send to OWH. :) Hopefully, someone will like him. He's so cute, I think! And he put a smile on my face, which made for a good evening on top of my yo-yo day. 

Dustin Pike Challenge #2 Entry

I needed a scrap break, so today I did some coloring and created this card. This is a Dustin Pike freebie digistamp that you can pick up on his blog here. I decided to join in on his challenge blog with this. Challenge #2 is a Sketch Challenge by Lelia. Here is the sketch:

I printed the image on some Whisper White Cardstock. I used my Prismacolor Pencils to color in the dragon. For an extra touch of dimension, I colored his body in a light color green, and then I added some very small circles to represent scales on him. I did something that I haven't done before, but had always wanted to try: I used my white eraser to add some highlight and do some blending after I had used my Aqua Brush on the image.
With a few of my gel pens and glitter gel pens, I added some "bling to the scales, shirt and bells. The horns on this character are a beautiful turquoise glitter, but they show more silver in the photo - there was just not good light to capture the true color.
For the shape that the dragon paper and it's mats are on, I used my Cricut and an svg file from www.svgcuts.com called "Simon's Square Shapes".
The "Party" letters are cut on my Cricut from a font called "Jokerman". I cut the clock in my Sure Cuts A Lot program by welding shapes together from the Shapes file. The clock hands are stamped from a CTMH stamp set called "Make It Count" (retired).
The bottom of the card is embossed with a Cuttlebug folder- D'Vine Swirls.  A few metallic green mini brads in the top corner, and I was done! Thanks for checking it out: I hope you like it!
